Replaces a Full Arch of Missing Teeth
To understand how all on 4 dental implants work, you need to know the basics of dental implants. With dental implants, a very small titanium rod is implanted into your jaw. That ultimately fuses with your jaw bone, creating a very realistic dental root. Then, a cap or crown is placed on the rod, and that’s the part of the implant that people can see. It’s designed to look like and match the rest of your teeth.
With all on 4 dental implants, you still get the titanium rod, but you get four rods put into the top or bottom of your mouth. Then, a whole row of prosthetic teeth is attached to those dental rods. You can put these dental implants just on the top or bottom, or you can put them in both the top and bottom of your mouth.
Gives Your Jaw Bone New Purpose
When you lose teeth, your jaw bone ultimately starts to disintegrate. That can make it hard to maintain your face’s shape, and it can even make it challenging to put in dentures. Because they go into your jaw bone, titanium implants give your jaw bone new purpose, and as a result, your jaw bone becomes much less likely to disintegrate or face similar issues.
Can Be Fixed or Removable
All on 4 dental implants are a permanent solution. They are fixed in your mouth by your oral surgeon. However, you can get a very similar option that is removable. Usually referred to as snap-on dentures, the removable option also repairs smiles in cases where you are missing all the teeth on the top or bottom of your mouth.
In these situations, you also get about four titanium implants put into your mouth. Then, a very small amount of the implant sticks up above your gum line, and you snap your dentures onto those implants.
Provides More Comfort and Stability than Dentures
Whether you opt for snap on dentures or all on 4 dental implants, you get a lot more stability than you do with traditional dentures. As explained above, the prosthetics are permanently fixed in or anchored to your mouth. You don’t have to worry about things slipping around as you are eating, smiling, or talking.
